 DISTRICT 28 GSR MEETING MINUTES
APRIL 18, 2026
GSR and Officer Members present:
Charley R - DCM and Literature, Don H-Alternate DCM ; Jose M- GSR Living in Solution; Randy G- GSR Hillman; Diane R-secretary-treasurer and GSR DAD and Grand Lake; Kelly O- Webmaster; Jenny S Back to Basics; Candy K-Came to Believe Group Rogers City. Phil S, Thursday Night Big Book Alpena; Bill K-New GSR Onaway, Open Speaker; and Two AA members, non officer.

The meeting was called to order by Charley at 11:45 am
Old Business:
The previous meeting minutes were reviewed by secretary Diane R and approved unopposed.
The treasury report was read by treasurer Diane R and approved unopposed. A copy of the report is available upon request. Diane mentioned that certain groups are consistent contributors to the treasury and others do not contribute at all. Expenses exceeded donations for the District. The traditions workshop costs were under $500.00 budget. There are extra booklets available to each group. There were 30 people present. Upcoming costs were discussed and approved. Charley will be appealing for the $1000.00 budget from Area 32 for the CMIA.  
Literature Report was given by Charley. The District purchased Newcomer packets and Acceptance booklets. Both are available upon request.
AA Hotline-Susan S is manning the phone and was not present. She reported to Diane that calls have been coming in.  
Webmaster Report- Kelly O reports that there are still many hits on the old website. She discussed the current problem with the website and her struggle with getting help to resolve it.

ALL REPORTS WERE APPROVED AS READ

New Business:
 
Randy G Hillman reports that the Emeric Park pavillion in Hillman for Sober Saturday has been reserved for Saturday June 6th, 2026. Randy stressed that this a Family Event and Open to all. (Kelly mentioned that there was a comedian there last year that was gathering info) The event starts at 1pm. There will be 2 speakers, one AlAnon and one AA speaker, 45 minutes each. The speakers will begin at 4pm. We will be serving pulled pork, hamburgers and hot dogs. Dinner will be at 6. Bottled water and coffee will be provided. Everyone is encouraged to bring a dish to pass and a folding chair. Games, a 50/50 raffle and silent auction will be held. Set up starts at noon. Camping is available. Donations from groups are welcomed. Jenny S suggested a group challenge to bring the best basket. Flyers for both the event and the basket challenge will be developed by Jenny. Transportation will be provided with the pick up point being Sunrise Center in Alpena. ( Randy will check to ensure that is a viable option again this year.
An AA member had some suggestions regarding the transportation.

CMIA:
The Area 32 inter-area meeting will be held the following Sunday at the Hillman Senior Center. Charlie reports this is the last year he will chair that meeting. He is stepping down. The event began 15 years ago. Prior to that, we had no representation within our district for the event. He will receive a budget of $1000.00 for the event. He encourages all to attend and bring sponsees. It is an open event. He will need volunteers to set up and tear down. He starts at 7am. The event lasts until 2:30-3pm. Clean up can be swift if enough volunteers.

Came to Believe -Rogers City Group Summer Event:
Candy and Bill reported that the event is scheduled for July 17, 18, 19th 2026. There is a flier available. It is located at Bill K’s camp and camping is free of charge. Picnic, games, and campfires will be held.
It was decided to hold the District 28 business meeting there on Saturday beginning at 11:45 am.

GSR Round Table:
Jenny S reports that the Back to Basics meeting is doing well. They have 10-15 women each Monday. They held a special event, a rememberance meeting for one of their long term members who just passed away.
Candy K reports that the Came to Believe Group is going well with large attendance. Last week they held a special event, a gratitude fun night and potluck. Come warm weather they will be hosting campfire meetings in the parking lot of the church. They again, are hosting a big summer event July 17, 18, 19th.
Bill K reports that the Onaway meetings are going strong. Newcomers come and go. There is rotation in chair persons. Bill met with the pastor of the church and relations are good. He also reported that the Open Speaker meeting is going strong with many attending.
Diane reports that the Grand Lake Meeting is going strong. They are now rotating chairpersons each month.
The DAD Sunday am Alpena Hospital group is still going strong, yet attendance is down.
The Over the Bridge Group in Alpena meetings held at the Alanon Club have good attendance in the morning, but the evening meetings need help as many nights there is no one to open the building. ( Pat M out of town )
Randy G reports that the Hillman group still has a strong core group and they have consistent attendance.
Joe M reported that the Saturday morning Living in the Solution group -Alpena has an increased attendance.
Phil S reports that the Thursday night Big Book Study in Alpena is going strong with much sharing during the literature study.

Other issues, New Events:

Don H reports that he is resigning as Alternate DCM as of January 2027. He will have served 2 years. He is going to work to plan a canoe trip event this summer.
Diane R reports that she is resigning as Secretary/ Treasurer as of January of 2027 as she will have served 6 years as secretary and 3 years as the treasurer.
